Now that its over.......

Now that the wedding is over ( a month now) I am just now beginning to feel that life is getting back to the new normal. We stayed at the wedding destination an additional week and half, foolishly thinking this would help us recover. Since this was our home town and our families live there as well as friends we did more visiting and playing than resting. We also decided "hey wouldn't it be fun to catch a horrendous virus?" so the day after we landed everyone was sick with a fever and horrible cough. It made us really look forward to - and question our sanity about - the planned reception in our home that Saturday. Miraculously it came off without a hitch (even though I later found I had pneumonia). My posts from now on will be reflections and hopefully some links to documents used....especially my checklist....but that's another post.

What would we have done different?
  • Definitely would have had an additional E-vite invitation - people got confused on the dates and some just plain forgot
  • Rested more on the back side of the wedding
  • Washed our hands more and perhaps masked myself when I was the first one sick (maybe banished myself to a nice hotel room on the beach....yeah that would have been nice)
  • Made less bean salad

What did work?
  • Shipping all the wedding decorations to our house for double use
  • Printing and enlarging photos we (or friends) shot at the wedding on regular paper and put around the house
  • Hanging the dress and displaying her Converse wedding shoes for everyone to see
  • Getting a "groom's cake" - something totally foreign to someone from the west coast like me and totally fun!
  • Playing the photo reflections DVD (you know the one where it shows photos of the bride and groom growing up) on our TV
